Pork and Bacon in Denmark

Although the Danes seldom eat cooked bacon as in Britain, they are among the world's highest consumers of pork and bacon products. Many families will sit down to tasty pork dishes several times a week.

Ham and other pork products are also common ingredients in the popular Danish open sandwich, 'smørrebrød'. Although more Danes now enjoy back bacon than in previous years, streaky bacon is still the most popular bacon product for Danish consumers.

In Denmark, DS has an active programme to modernise the image of pork among Danish consumers, promoting a wide variety of delicious, easy to prepare recipes. Another important aspect of the campaign, is to promote the nutritional benefits of pork as a source of lean meat.
