The National Committee was established in 1992 to bring together a wide variety of pig producing interests, including the major farmers' unions and industry organisations. In co-operation with Danske Slagterier, it undertakes a major programme of research and development, totalling over DKK 90m per annum (£8.5m approx.), in all areas of pig production including:

• statistics and recording
• breeding
• reproduction
• nutrition
• animal health
• housing systems and management
• information technology.
